Welcome to All About You Fitness
I'm Beth Brake and I coach men and women through the fitness process. Before I explain the story behind how I came to start All About You Fitness, let me start off by asking you a personal question.
How many times have you gotten up in the morning and say, “I've GOT to do something about exercising more often?”
If you're like most people, it's probably more often than you'd like to admit. But that's ok. The fact that you're at this site, reading this right now, tells me that you're ahead of most people in that you're actively seeking the necessary guidance to start exercising more, rather than just thinking about it. But why choose me as the one who helps you eliminate the diet mentality, shed some excess weight and forever change the way you look and feel about exercising? In short, what is so special about All About You Fitness?
I am You
While you and I may not be exactly alike, I have a hunch that we've experienced much of the same frustrations, challenges and overall outlook with maintaining a physical look and healthy life we're proud of.
I realized as a teenager that obesity runs in my family. Food was a way to comfort and push down feelings about issues going on in my home. Emotion was not a safe expression, and physical activity was definitely not stressed. When I was about 15 years old, I knew I was not overweight, but like most girls my age, I always thought my body was not good enough. It was around this that I also started feeling sore every morning.
Like most teenage girls I was always reading fashion magazines and dreaming of the day I would look like the models within those glossy pages. I also instinctively found myself reading and storing a vast amount of knowledge about exercise and health. But all the reading in the world couldn't mask the increasing stress I felt at home. Like so many other young women I turned to food and television to escape. You can imagine the results this had on my body, not to mention my self-esteem.
Soon after high school I was married and got pregnant. During the pregnancy I gained 60 pounds. I was absolutely terrified I would not be able to lose the excess weight. A few months following the birth of my wonderful son, I began putting the knowledge I had gained over the years on health and exercise to use. I started exercising on my own and not only gradually lost the weight, the morning soreness I had had since 15 seemed to disappear. Although I knew that I had to sustain the momentum and motivation I had, my journey was far from being a smooth one.
My Epiphany
For the next 13 years I did a lot of multitasking, from raising my son and getting a degree in psychology, to working in several different fields: insurance, real estate, travel, and production. None of these fit me or my passions. At the tender age of 31 I walked away from a secure job and shortly thereafter my marriage ended after 13 years. At this point in my life I knew I wanted to do something that mattered and began searching for that one thing that would not only fulfill me, but something that would allow me to positively touch and change other people's lives.
A few years later I had an epiphany. For some reason it had never occurred to me to go into the fitness industry. Have you ever realized that you can spend what seems like a lifetime searching for something, when the entire time that something is right in front of you and you can't see it until you're ready? Well, that was me. And, boy, was I ready.
The Birth of All About You Fitness
After thoroughly researching the fitness industry I made the decision to become a personal trainer. I went through an extensive training, testing and certification process to become a personal trainer. During this period I ventured back to college to study physiology, and kinesiology of the body and other vital health related topics.
Personal training became a natural fit for me. I know personally how hard it is to take your own life challenges and turn them into positive steps toward growth. I have been a successful practicing personal trainer for over 10 years now. If I have learned anything, it's that without self acceptance, balance, and motivation, you cannot fulfill you full potential.
Now, I'm facing many new changes and challenges. Like a lot of women my age, I sometimes feel as if my body is working against me instead of with me. Even though I've been fortunate to have helped many clients over the years achieve their fitness and health goals, I knew there has to be a better way than what we were accustom to. I mean, let's face it, there's a lot of men and women my age and even younger, who want to get in shape but feel that the gym is too intimidating, possibly too expensive, and/or they never have time to exercise. Frustration grows as they try diets that don't work and when people don't attain their goals, they think – “I'm useless, I'll never lose weight” – and they give up.
 And so here I am, overseeing a thriving, successful business that positively touches and enhances the lives of our clients. What more could a girl ask for? Well, I do have a long list.
